Searching for Portrait Mounts

“Hey that’s a really cool painting and a nice family picture.” your best friend says. Now you need 2 new frames and some portrait mounts for both. The problem is that you aren’t sure where to begin looking to find what you need. You make 2 moves simultaneously; turning on the computer and reaching for the phone book. You turn to the Yellow Pages and start looking under “Craft Stores” and “Photo Frames” while the computer boots up. It turns out that finding what you’re looking for in the phone book takes a lot longer than the computer’s boot up process does. It takes twice as long as you had expected to would to even come close to finding something resembling the information you are looking for on portrait mounts and where you might be able to but some. Buying the new frames is going to be easier than finding the portrait mounts to go with them. The main problem is not being able to find what you’re looking for at a glance.

You start looking under “Craft Stores” and begin calling a few that you know are not that far away. In most cases, when you’re able to get someone on the phone from the picture frame section, they tell you, ”Although we do have some portrait mounts, I’m not certain that we carry the kind that you said you are looking for. I would suggest that you take a look at our store’s website to see if you can find what you are looking for.” With that, each one gives you the store’s web address.

The next two categories you look under are “Photography Suppliers” and “Art Suppliers”. After you have spoken to sales people in each of the stores you call; and gotten pretty much the same responses. From that point you decide to call the photography studio where your family’s photo was taken to ask him if he has portrait mounts, and if not, where you can find them. The photographer tells you “I’m sorry sir. No, I don’t sell either portrait mounts or frames. I can, however, give you the names, phone numbers and web addresses of three different places to check.

As you have been talking to all of these people on the telephone, you have also been very busily searching the Internet for those blasted portrait mounts that you need. You’ve gone to your favorite search engine and typed portrait mounts into the search box. When it comes up with over 78 thousand matches you simply whistle and say “Well, it looks like I’ve got quite a bit to look through.” It takes you a good 25 to 30 minutes to go through and pick the ones that look like they might have the information you’re looking for. One website you find shows you that there are some very different styles of portrait mounts than you were picturing. “Very interesting, I was thinking that these were plain triangular pieces of paper that have self-stick on the back.
