Frame Moulding

Help?! Can someone please tell me exactly what frame mouldings are? I’ve heard of chair mouldings and chair rails, because I work in construction, but I’ve never heard of frame mouldings. Would you mind educating this carpenter?

I wouldn’t mind that at all. Frame mouldings, as in picture frames; not houses are the pieces that make the picture frame itself. There are many, many different styles, sizes and colors that are made for sale to stores and custom shops. Oh… you don’t say. Exactly what colors will I be able to find these frame moulding pieces in? Would you care to start naming off the colors that you’re aware of? Frame mouldings come in just about any color you could possibly think of. How’s that for an answer to your question? The pieces that will eventually become frame mouldings are made from either wood or metal that is painted (wood) or manufactured in these specific colors: black, white, blue (dark and light), pink, gray, green, brown, silver and gold. This is only a partial list of the colors that the metal frame mouldings are available in. Each company has its own color combinations that it carries and sells. Now wood frame mouldings are also available in a variety of colors and they are pretty much the same as what I listed for the metal frame pieces.

I’ve got another silly question for you; can I find frame mouldings that aren’t finished, you know, so I could finish the frame to my own liking? Hmmmm, I haven’t got an answer for you on that one. I’ll have to look that one up and see what I can find. I would imagine that you would be able to find and buy unfinished pieces and finish the completed frame as you choose to. I do know this much, you might be able to find that exact thing at a lumber store or a home improvement warehouse or you might even find what you’re looking for at your local craft supplies store. I’ll tell you one thing that’s for certain, and that is that there’s almost nothing you wouldn’t be able to find on the Internet
If you type frame mouldings into the web browser’s Search Box you will find more information than you’ll know what to do with! You know, that’s the wonderful thing about the Internet. You simply type in a few words in a search box and ask it the do the searching for you. Pretty neat, huh? Come to think of it, you can also use the Internet to do a bit of browsing before you even leave your home.

Ok, I’ve got one more question for you. What styles do frame mouldings come in? As I’ve already said, I’m a carpenter and am familiar with chair moulding. You name it, and it’s available. The designs go from very simple and straight-lined to sharply angled in a wide “V” shape to curved pattern that vary from a slight wave to a sharply hooked pattern. There isn’t much more that I can really tell you, however, this should give you a good place to start.
