Decorative Frames Abound

Let’s say that you’ve just been given some treasured photographs of long-deceased family members that you’re anxious to display. You look n your storage closet/craft room only to discover that you don’t have a single Picture Frame in the house to spare.

“What now?” you ask yourself aloud. The answer’s simple… you grab your keys and wallet and head for your favorite craft store a few miles away. When you get there the store owner greets you pleasantly, “Good Afternoon! How may I help you today?” You proceed to tell him that you’ve just been given some treasured family photos and need frames for them. He leads you over to the Framing section a few yards away. This is a very large craft store.

“Here we are. You should be able to find anything you’re looking for right here,” he says; pointing to the many shelves, racks and wall displays of Custom Framing Kits, Frame Moulding, Wood Frames, Metal Frames and Plastic Frames. “Take your time Ma’am. I’ll be back shortly. It appears that I have some customers that are bewildered.”

As you look around, you see a leaflet on the counter in front of you announcing a new class that’s due to start the following Wednesday. The class is called “A World of Pictures and Frames” The flyer says that Ready Made Frames and Custom Frames, along with the differences between them will be discussed. Also discussed will be the different Framing Tools that a crafter would use; among these are Matting, Portrait Mounts, Photo Mats and Mirror frames and what a Mirror Frame is. Framing techniques are the last thing that the flyer says will be talked about. It states that all participants will be required to bring a bag lunch or a snack and that the class members will be making a frame by hand.

As you put the flyer down you see 5 other brochures for the different kinds of frames that are around you. The 1st is titled Wood Frames and described, in detail all of the wood frames available. It has full color photos of each frame along with the price for each one. The 2nd one says simply Metal Frames. This one shows seven different styles of metal frames; all of which you see to your right. It, too, has color photos and a price list of each frame. There are four distinct frames that are the company’s most popular; Brass Frames, Silver Frames, Pearl/Silver Frames (for that extra touch of class) and Engraved Frames (to commemorate that special event, person or people)

The 3rd one is Plastic and Acrylic Frames. As with the others, it, too, shows color photos and prices of the most popular plastic and Acrylic frames on the market today. The 4th brochure, Certificate Frames and Award Frames, goes into more detail about which styles of wood metal, plastic and Acrylic frames fall into this category. You see that the prices of these are the most affordable of them all.

The 5th and last brochure was titled Art Deco Frames. There, however, weren’t any of these around. Art Deco frames were what you want. When the owner comes back to you he asks if you’ve found what you were looking for. When you tell him that you can’t find any Art Deco Frames, he leads you over to a nearby computer where he shows you what he usually carries in stock and says “I’m sorry about this. We’re temporarily out of all of our art deco frames and the new shipment of brochures hasn’t arrived yet.”  It doesn’t take you very long to decide upon and order 2 Ceramic Art Deco and 2 Antiqued Silver frames as well as purchasing 5 wooden ready made frames. You also sign up for “A World of Pictures and Frames”
