Custom Frames
Custom Frames Galore
It’s very obvious from the name that Custom Frames are just that; it’s made to fit the specific measurements you need. Hey, I just got the most interesting sports poster I’ve ever seen! Can I custom make a frame for it myself? You surely can! How do I start? The first thing you need to do when you decide to make your own frames is measure the poster or item that you are making the frame for. Make Sure That You Write Those Measurements Down!!! This is very important! Then go to your local craft or art supply store or home improvement center and look for the Framing section. If you can’t find what you’re looking for on your own, then ask one of the salespeople for help and advice. That is why they are there, after all.
What do I need to purchase to make custom frames? You will need to buy frame mouldings that are cut to the exact sizes that you need to create your one-of-a-kind frame. You will also need to buy either, nails or small staples and/or craft or wood glue to secure the frame’s pieces together. You may want to use both wood glue and nails or staples. Okay, I have my supplies; what now? Lay out all your supplies on your work table & make sure that you’ve got everything you need. The last thing you need is to get halfway through your project and find out that you need to stop to go back out and get something that you’ve forgotten. What a Pain!!
You need to remember your safety gear. Whenever you are working with tools of any kind you need to always wear leather work gloves to protect your hands and safety goggle or glasses to protect your eyes. Next Step, please? If you did not buy pre-cut frame moulding pieces, then you need to cut those pieces to the exact sizes you need for the custom frames you are making. And what if I make a mistake in cutting or when I’m putting the pieces together? Well, an old and well established rule in both carpentry and wood working come into play here; and it says “Measure Twice, Cut Once.” This may not be the exact wording, though I have heard it stated as such many, many times. You need to mark your measurements more than once, maybe even two or three times, to be absolutely certain that you’re marking is accurate and don’t waste any material. After you’ve measured and cut your pieces, you need to put them together by either gluing and stapling or just plain gluing. Set this aside to dry and set. The amount of time the glue needs to dry can be found on the wood glue bottle. After this you will need to attach the hanger to your custom frames. Now, you’re ready to tack that new poster to the frame.
Take it from someone who makes things all the time, custom frames are something to be very proud of.
