Art Deco Frames Can Be Fun!!

What are Art Deco Frames? Well, Art Deco is a specific design style from the 1920s through the 1930s that adds fun and sometimes odd geometric shapes and zigzags that have very bold outlining and uses bright, bold colors to make a statement. It also makes use of many different types of materials; such as mixing pottery with plastic and adding some oddly shaped glass pieces. It combines several other styles together; among these are Cubism, the Russian Constructivism and Futurism. Paintings and pottery and picture frames are where you will most likely see the Art Deco Style. These are fun to look at and well appreciated for their fun and flirty style. They definitely brighten up any room they’re in!

Do these frames convey any specific messages? They speak volumes about the people that own them. If someone has a very bright, bubbly personality; then they might want nothing but Art Deco Frames in their home or office. Art Deco Frames are definitely an interesting conversation starter.

What materials are Art Deco Frames commonly made from? Any combination that you can possibly think of. An example would be wood with glass and metal accents; or a ceramic base with oddly shaped glass pieces and a few plastic buttons added just to make it more interesting. This should give you the idea that the possible combinations (of materials) artists use to make these delightful Art Deco Frames is only limited by their imaginations and the materials they have on hand.

What patterns and designs make up Art Deco? Just about anything you can possibly think of. You are just as likely to see triangles and circles and trapezoids as you are to see brightly colored lightning bolts running down the sides of an Art Deco frame.

What colors are used in this type of frame? You will see any bright, bold color that exists; and even a few that the artist just created from the pigments he or she has. This is part of what makes Art Deco frames so fun to look at.

Are paint and or lacquer used in/on Art Deco style frames? Yes indeed. They too are among the many things that artists have used for centuries in the making of Art Deco objects. As I’ve already said, any material that you can possibly think of; in any number of combinations; can be and often is used in making Art Deco frames.

What do I need to know to make these delightful little frames myself? There are classes available all the time through your local craft supplier, art school or community college. All you really need to do is ask. You more than likely get the Spring, Summer and Fall catalogue of courses from your local college; so why not take a look inside under the art section and see what they have to offer. Another place that you might find said courses is the local technical college or vocational-technical school.
